Updated Schedule Page and Wool Pix!

     Sally, owner of Hidden Talents Art Supply, and I have the March calendar pretty well nailed down. I will let you know here if something changes.

     I am gearing up, making 'things', for The Vintage Faire (April 27, 2013 at the Okanogan Fairgrounds). So, here are the latest artistic wool creations-

And these are my newest idea. Mini clay pots holding needle felted pin cushions.

At our last Spinning/Weaving guild meeting a member handed me a bag of this wool. She had purchased some Merino wool, at a price 'too good to be true' that was horrid.
She tried to fix it by blending it with her own delightful Shetland's wool, but was still unable to get it nice enough to spin. "Here!", she said. "You can needle felt it or use it for stuffing! I don't care. At least it will get used for something!"
So, I teased it mercilessly and sent it through Greta. I think I can get an art batt out it. And if I CAN spin it, it will make marvelous mermaid hair!

Collaboration

I have a friend who makes lovely pine needle baskets. I have a few zillion Ponderosa Pines on our property and can pretty well keep her in needles to weave. Sometimes I throw a few handfuls into the dye bath after the wool has soaked up all it can.


Her latest thing is making little 'trays' and she is having me
 needle felt the 'balls' and she is making pin cushions of them.
They are kind of cute...

So, the woolly trail I seem to be on continues!

Pixies and Elves

I have been lucky enough to have a very nice local shop, The Prickly Pear, accept some of my art on consignment. They like the large dolls, but feel smaller, less expensive options would help, so... I got out the wool and needle and let the muse go forth!
Here is what has emerged so far-

This is elf, Lana Lee.

And Pixies, Pixaleena and Patina.
A 7 year old 'customer' named Pixaleena, as I had just finished making her and she needed naming.

A robin's nest with eggs and a basket with Easter eggs have been created. Pix to follow soon!

Meet Sirena of the Sea

Sirena is, obviously, a mermaid...a needle felted mermaid.

 Her pet star fish, Punkin, joined her for the photo shoot.
 

 The gentleman I bought the gorgeous rock from last weekend at the farmer's market rattled off the rock's pedigree, but I will have to research it to know what it is! My brain didn't retain the scientific genre.

 

Flora the Wood Nymph

Flora-not a cutesy toothpick but a REAL wood nymph with boobs, butt and belly button!

Good Morning! Just trying to catch up on my postings and realized Flora hadn't come to show you her new outfit. She is sporting the fall line of hair, as well. Her cousin Falla Treelaine is finished, just needs her photo shoot, but that will have to wait until after the quilt show this weekend in Wenatchee. The car is all packed, roof to flooring, and I am excited to get all set up. I have been 'tightening up' the visual appeal of my booth and think the black theme will really show off the wowsa colors I specialize in making! Pix will be shared Monday.

If I were a redhead...

I am getting a lot of odds and ends finished up. This doll is sporting the redhead wool hair in our doll hair line of woolly products. I have the 'gift' of being a brand new spinner, which means I have no control on how much twist I produce when spinning-on the wheel or on the spindle. But, this is great, because it makes stupendous doll hair and art yarn, which luckily is all the rage right now! :?}

I also have been making some spontaneous gifts. I am blessed with very supportive, generous, warm and wonderful friends and they just need to be thanked now and then, with a little Art from my Heart!

 Needle felted Chicken Gift Bag. Says "thanks", especially when filled with chicken feed (candy corn, of course!)

 My friend Jessica had worn her two favorite blouse 'to death', but just couldn't toss them in the garbage. When she asked if I could use them for anything I said, "You bet", because this gifting opportunity came instantly to mind! Sweet Dreams pillowcase, one shirt on the front, one shirt for the back, and a lovely pink from my stash. Repurpose!

Only a 3 year old granddaughter could be the happy recipient of these Gramma Lindy produced mittens. I crochet a little better than I knit, but I have never mastered 'protuberances' like thumbs or sleeves...but no matter. I started with the wool off a sheep and ended with a useful, if oddly shaped, item of love for my Kate. It's been a productive day!

Now that I have photo to critique with, I see where I still need to needle a bit more...but many, many thanks to Mr. van Gogh. His art was made for wool!

Art and Rescue

Besides art, sometimes I have to step outside and rescue the latest kamikaze bird. We feed the little darlings, everything from teensy caliope hummingbirds to chunky Stellar's Jays and Gray Jays. Unfortunately, all those well feed birds have attracted the attention of a sharp shinned hawk. When he swoops in for the kill the dozens of birds scatter like buckshot, often crashing into our huge picture windows. Sometimes there are fatalities, but often my husband or I go out and scoop up the latest stunned one and hold them until the hawk is gone and they can re-orient themselves. Yesterday this little swallow was my gift for the day. They are so iridescent and beautiful. It was such a privilege to hold on to it until it could grasp the limb. And, yes, it did finally fly away, 'all better'. :?}

If Vincent Van Gogh had worked in wool, this is what it might have looked like...











And you thought I had dyed all that wool just for fun. Well, yes, but I did have plans to use it, and it turns out it is another addiction, or, as a very nice reader titled it, 'a series'. Lindy is working in a series (because she is addicted to working with wool at the moment!)
