A finished quilt. Imagine that!

I sewed the worms' eyes on tonight and the last button on the flower. Trimmed all the loose threads and had a photo shoot. This was started months ago as a sample for my booth showing off my hand dyes/ Oh! It feels good to get it done! Tomorrow I attack the binding on another one, label them both and give them a bath.

I am readying my Fantasy Fish wall hanging for shipping. The thrill and big smile of my first sale off the fiberartfromtheheart.com website! Okay, so it was purchased by a very nice, very supportive relative, but not a blood relative, so that is pretty cool anyway! (Thank you, Garth!) Autumnal WILD Flowers

Well, some of my WILD flowers I like more than others. I found the perfect frame for this 16"X20" and I LOVE how it looks! I am in the process of getting the rest of my work framed. It really 'classes' it up!

Night time Wild flowers

Here is the silver gray rendition of the Wild Flowers series, Under the Gibbous Moon. The flowers consist of 2-3 layers in various sizes, the smallest centers being comprised of thick metallic thread. Leaves are from the several shades of silver gray thread also. New to this series is 'grass'. I used my long rectangle cardboard form, stitched two lines 1/2" apart down the center of it, as well as all around the perimeter, then sliced it right down the center. I have 11 more wild flower bases ready to quilt, all in the WILD colorway.

Spring Green REALLY done...

Spring Green, when you last saw it, had an inefficient stick stuck through the hanging sleeve. The new owner requested that the 'soft' wall hanging be made into a 'hard' one. I achieved that by extending the mountains into the borders and mounting the entire piece on foam core, covering the raw edges on the back with a large piece of spring greens batik. I like this so much better! It truly looks complete now...

Last Vestige

 

 This was started during my very fun, creative, restive Art Camp week. Just finished it yesterday. I had to be in the proper mood to make design decisions...I loved creating the quilting; free motion/no pattern/leafy leafy. The gold background is one of my hand dyes, the tree is of commercial fabric. The leaves are the ones I tutorialed on this blog. I cropped the photo too closely to show, but there is traditional French binding around the perimeter, except in the root area of the tree. I left that 'raw'.

Now that I have used the skill saw to cut a thin piece of plywood to size, put a layer of batting on the front of that plywood, glued and stapled blue, then green, hand-dyed fabric on top of that, then placed the quilt, then applied some more flowers in the border with a grand finale' of a few hand stitched stems, Husband has changed his mind about the 'Elvis velvet painting'.  He now proclaims, "That'll sell!"   :?}

 What did I ever do before pc's and digital instant gratification? My design wall is a great help in designing and finalizing my work, but I need that one step further away that pix from the camera give me.

This twig works...but it needs some bling dangling on the left!

From 'placemat' to art!

 I finally am getting around to transforming my Four Seasons from 'placemats' (a gentleman customer wanted to know if that is what they were) into wall art. Summer Blues got willow branches tied with yellow grosgrain ribbons and stretched with 'spider webs' to join it to the frame (invisible thread artfully placed). Sold.

 Winter Silence got willow branches and snow ball wire to simulate falling snow. The picture tells me I may have gone overboard with the snow... I can fix that! I will add Fall and Spring as soon as they are finished, which is almost! Available for sale.

 My beloved Viking sewing machine died last week. I have ordered a new motor, but meanwhile I am sewing on a circa 1890's Eldredge. We are talking straight ahead straight stitch and that is it. But that is enough to do the slash work sewing!

Geo Leaves-Sewing, sewing, Gone!

I had such fun and freedom making this quilt. I free-hand cut all the leaves. The pattern is leaf on leaf on square, all stitched down with satin stitch. Heavily quilted, with the tree trunk and limbs 'flattened' by the quilting. This was the quilt I was sewing the sleeve on while sitting in my vendor's booth at Art in the Park and a lady watching me sew said, "When you are finished with that, I want it!" That was fun! While taking a class in design...

I took a class the last two Thursdays. A class in design dilemmas and how to recognize/solve them. Last week I had my flannel on the table, my 4" squares laid out as randomly as I was capable of doing, as per instruction, when I thought, "Hey! I like this! I then folded another square into fourths and placed it on a square of a different color. "What if I..." The instructor kind of had to pull me back into class - I wanted to be home and go at this concept!

When I did get home, I played and played and had so much fun! I didn't have a flannel board for the second class, but, oh well!  Now to finish it, always the most difficult part for my personality!  I am one super-duper starter, but a lousy finisher... I titled this one Dance Studios in honor of its vibrating, exciting colors!

This was done a couple of summers ago. Its photo got lost in the maze of pix I have on my pc! Hand appliqued leaves and stems, machine stitched the 3D petals down.

Falling

 This is a proud moment! I scanned leaves onto fabric about 10 years ago, when I got my first scanner. Didn't know about prepping the fabric so the ink would 'take' and the picture be bright, so it was dull and boring in appearance. It has made move after move, been unearthed, sunk to the bottom of the UFO pool over and over...But I have grown and learned and when I dug it out again a few weeks back I had the tadah moment!  I sliced one fabric sheet into strips and sliced the other to receive the weaving, creating a nice subtle background. I then appliqued the batik leaves on top for vavoom, then stitched that, sandwiched with a thin batting. onto the batik gold and brown fabric. I fringed the edges of the woven fabrics.  A UFO no longer! It's nearly a miracle!

I made this quilt as a gift to my husband of 4 years to honor him for his service to his country. He served in Vietnam and returned to a country that did not honor that service at that time. The lower inset, bordered with red is commercial fabric printed with the Pledge of Allegiance printed over and over...

Lindy's Passion

I practically live at the lake in the summer. I go to fish, but that is simply an excuse to be up there, seeing all the animals, taking pictures, swimming. Being out in the woods feeds my soul.  I used photos printed onto fabric, four great batiks, and leather strip fringe.

The Great Outdoors

Trying to 'catch up' with the posting of old and new quilts. The Great Outdoors was originally a round robin, with very few rounds, so I needed to build several more blocks. It took the concentrated time frame of an artist's retreat to work with this jigsaw puzzle and get it to work and play well together!
