I made this quilt a couple of summers ago I think...but I just never took the time to make sure I had a decent picture of it. (When I first began quilting I was SO going to take a picture of every creation, humble or high and mighty, but we all know how THAT goes!)
Saw this quilt on the cover of a magazine and went straight to my batiks and went at it in my favorite colors and tried for seasonality in each block. Somewhere in the process a stain showed up on the winter block...thus the butterfly fluttered to the rescue and added charm as well as coverage!
When this blog first began, it featured all things quilty and was titled Art From The Heart. Years go by, interests morph, horizons expand, and all of a sudden you realize you are a quilter, yes...but also a spinner, weaver, knitter, crocheter, mixed media, fiber artist. The art is still from the heart, but the new name reflects my excitement with all things fiber! It's Fantabulous!

Baby Bennett's Quilt
My very dear, extremely sweet (and kind of tiny!) mother-in-law commissioned me to make quilts for her great granddaughters (fraternal twins) born in July 2010, and upcoming great grandson, Bennett, who is to arrive in November. She has had the pattern since the '70's I think, but it sure turns out cute quilts!

Multi/Mixed Media
I am a baby-beginner in the multi-media art quilt field and loving the 'kindergarten' freedom of playing without worrying about a grade! After I have made a raft of my own mistakes (how I learn best and keeps the 'brainstorming' aspect alive) I will watch/read tutorials and find out how I am 'supposed' to do things. This work in progress is composed of vertical magazine page and fabric horizontal, interwoven, just like the hot pads I wove on the metal loom as a child, or the construction paper place mats we made in school for holiday parties. I am not quite sure where to go from here on this piece, besides fixing the lumpy mountain and deciding on a shape for the whole thing... Round? Square?
This is my first try at thread painting an entire scene. Unlike the swan triptyche, this is an actual photo printed on interfacing in color and then thread painted to accentuate. I started with an exquisite photo taken by a friend, Kaye Wilson of New Zealand. I have plans to try the same scene using fabric collage, perhaps with some thread painting... and I want to do this scene once more with thread painting, as in 'practice makes perfect' or in my case, 'at least improvement'. But it doesn't have to be perfect to be fun!

"Anticipation"
"Anticipation" is/was my final entry for the Quilting Arts/Bernina, 'Stitch This!" contest. I decided that, win or not, a triptych was called for. Thread painting has really been fun and I have several more scenes planned- my grandbaby wearing her 'going to Mexico' hat, and a pair of Adirondack chairs facing a sunset/mountain scene.

Oh, My Stars!
Quilt done for a guild challenge. The blah tan leaf fabric and the garish gold print were the challenge, plus a certain number of other fabrics allowed. I had to get creative and use both the front and the other side of all the fabrics to get the contrast needed within the constraints. One of my favorite quilts that I have ever completed!

Scrappy Table Topper
Scrappy Log Cabin
This is a charity quilt made for the quilt club I belong to. We give quilts to Childrens Orthopedic Hospital in Seattle, local Women's Crisis Support Center, dozens of fundraisers for people w/cancer and other life threatening diseases. One of our newest ventures was to join in w/the 1 million pillowcase drive. Only 4 created so far, and sent those to Ronald McDonald House by Children's O.H., Seattle, WA.

Legacy
I am passionate about getting outdoors; to the lake to fish, see all the animals, fish and birds, to swim between 'bites'...This wall hanging shows photos I took of these things, printed on fabric, 'framed' in batiks, and hung the whole thing from my Dad's first fishing pole (also mine!) and all held together with fishing lures, line, sinkers, swivels, beads, buttons and even bells!
Your Personal Legacy, with your photos, commissioned- $250, plus actual shipping cost. Allow one month for creation once photos and payment are received.

Poetry + Art + Quilt = Still Life With Words
Moonrise
This quilt was salvaged from an attempt years ago to adhere the initial scene onto a t-shirt. Um...didn't work, as it made the shirt so stiff the shoulders stood out from my body like a football player's shoulder pads! The dark blue shore line is all that remains of the t-shirt. I added more trees, the sparkling night dark sky and quilted lightly. Looks much better on a wall than on me!
